ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — After more than a decade, the chief medical examiner for Orange and Osceola counties is retiring. Dr. Jan Garavaglia, also known as Dr. G, made the announcement Friday.

Garavaglia arrived in Central Florida in 2003 and raised her two sons here. Both boys are now in college. That’s where the promise comes in.

Garavaglia has worked on several high-profile cases in the Orlando area, including the Casey Anthony murder trial. Although she’s planned her retirement for several years, Dr. G publicly announced her decision Friday, saying it’s part of a promise to her husband.
