At one point in season 2, Rafe tricks Sarah into getting her alone on a boat and attempts to drown her. Conveniently, Topper shows up and saves the day. He beats up Rafe and takes Sarah home to comfort her. Sarah stays with Topper as he dotes on her, and she understandably feels as though this is a safe place for her.
