Is The Town movie a true story? Not exactly. The Town is actually loosely based on Chuck Hogan’s novel Prince of Thieves. However, Affleck did his own research into Charlestown in hopes of making the movie as accurate as possible.

The Town / Film synopsis
Who’s the movie The Town based on?
The Town is loosely based on Chuck Hogan’s novel Prince of Thieves. The 1995 article in The Boston Globe, which inspired the film’s prologue, actually noted “more armored car robbers are traced” to Charlestown than any other neighborhood in the country. This is based on FBI statistics at the time.
Is the movie The Town scary?
Parents need to know that this gritty, tension-filled thriller directed by Ben Affleck about a crew of Boston bank robbers has plenty of excitement — and plenty of graphic violence.
Together, they committed the 2010 Cambrige Merit Bank robbery, as well as five armored car jobs and three other bank jobs. They narrowly escaped the robbery of a seventh armored car, and were captured in a police raid on their quarry. After interrogation, in which nobody talked, they were forcibly returned home.
Is town worth watching?
The Town is not only only a solid action/ crime film but also marks Affleck as a great director. I strongly recommend this film if you are interested in the genre.
