Where is Amanda Eller now?

Eller, a former Maui resident who caught the world’s attention when she went hiking at Makawao Forest Reserve only to disappear for 17 days, traveled to India last year. She moved back to the East Coast in November. And now she’s writing a book to process her ordeal and find “some sense of normalcy.”

When did Amanda Eller go missing?

Eller, 35, disappeared after apparently going for a hike on May 8. Her boyfriend was the last person to see Eller, a yoga teacher and physical therapist, that morning, but when she did not return home he reported her missing to police the next day.

Who found Amanda Eller?

Her family offered a $50,000 reward, up from $10,000 in the days after Eller’s disappearance, and hired a helicopter crew to search for her by air. That effort was Eller’s salvation Friday. Searchers Troy Helmer, Javier Cantellops and Chris Berquist spotted the missing hiker from air, foraging for food.

How did Amanda Eller survive?

Eller went deeper into the forest, thinking she was heading back to the car. She later recounted to media that she survived off stream water, lost her shoe in a flash flood, ate moths, berries and other forest wildlife and slept in a boar’s den.
