As a child Amanda Redman MBE was burned across her whole body following an accident with a pot of boiling soup. From personal experience, Amanda knows the impact a burn injury can have on a child and their family. As part of Child Safety Week we ask Amanda how this injury has affected her life and career.

Amanda Redman MBE is looking fabulous in a tight-fitting red dress. She sweeps back her long blonde hair, blue eyes sparkling, and her face lights up with hat feline smile of hers as she talks about “my Guinea Pigs”.

Is Amanda Redman really scarred?

Redman is badly scarred on her left arm as a result of an accident when she was 18 months old. She was scalded with a pan of boiling-hot turkey-and-vegetable soup and suffered burns to 75% of her body.

She has never shied away from showing the scars down one arm – the result of spilling boiling soup over herself as a child. Redman was in hospital from 18 months old until the age of five. As a result, like the programme she describes, she is tough, proud of her scars and in no way sentimental or squeamish.
