Are Birkenstock supposed to be hard?

They might feel a bit stiff. That’s normal. As soon as you start wearing them a bit they will start to soften and shape to your foot.

Why are my Birkenstocks so hard?

It takes time because you need to allow your feet and body to gradually adjust to the support, straps, and buckles. In addition, the cork footbed needs to soften over time. Your body weight and repeated bending of the shoes from normal wear is how the footbed will mold to the natural shape of your feet.

What is the difference in Birkenstock footbeds?

The soft footbed is exactly the same construction as the regular footbed. The only difference is underneath the suede layer and right above the jute layer is a layer of memory foam. It’s not that soft. You can feel it when your shoe is new, but it’s not like squishy like wearing a Nike if that makes sense.
