Is it worth fixing a bike?
Financially speaking, repairing an old bike is not worth it, as it can cost as much as buying a new bike. For many, fixing an old bike is a tempting job, but commonly we misjudge the amount of time and money it will take to bring it back to its former glory.
How do you damage a bike?
Don’t clean your bike. Yeah that’s right, just don’t bother. Don’t service your bike. Make doubly sure you don’t let the bike shop guys touch your ride. Ignore creaking sounds. Absolutely, positively, do not service your suspension. Store your bike outdoors.
What can you do with an old bike?
There are several ways to get rid of old bicycles. If your bike is in good condition or can easily be repaired, you might consider donating your old bike to a charity, thrift store, or acquaintance in need of a bike. You may even be able to donate your broken bike for parts.
Do bike frames break?
They vary by how aggressively they can be ridden or the terrain they can handle. If you ride a cross-country bike on a downhill course you are likely to see component failure. This not to say that even with the best components a serious crash won’t break things. It is less likely with the appropriate equipment.
