Are host and IP the same?
A host, or website, on the Internet is identified by a host name, such as www.example.com . Host names are sometimes called domain names. Host names are mapped to IP addresses, but a host name and an IP address do not have a one-to-one relationship. A host name is used when a web client makes an HTTP request to a host.
Is host number same as IP address?
They are not the same: The hostname is a mapping to the IP address. Over time the same hostname could map to a different IP address. This might be done where a web service is rebuilt on a different machine for example.
What is my host name?
From the Start menu, select All Programs or Programs, then Accessories, and then Command Prompt. In the window that opens, at the prompt, enter hostname . The result on the next line of the command prompt window will display the hostname of the machine without the domain.
