What does a server address look like?
A server address is a unique set of numbers that identifies your computer on the internet. It’s like your home address, but for the internet. When you want to visit a website, you need to enter the website’s server address into your web browser. This tells your computer where to find the website. 1. A server address is a series of numbers and letters that identify the location of your computer on the Internet
2. The most common form of a server address is called an “IP Address” or “Internet Protocol Address”
3. An IP Address has four sets of digits separated by periods (e.g., 123.45.67)
4. The first set of digits in an IP Address identifies what country it belongs to, such as 12 for Canada or 213 for Japan
5. The second set of digits in an IP Address identifies what region within that country it belongs to, such as 3 for Ontario (the province where Toronto is located) and 4 for Tokyo (the capital city)
6. The third set of digits in an IP Addresses identifies the city that the computer is located in, such as 789 for Ottawa and 801 for Kyoto
7 .The fourth set of digits in an IP Address identify the specific network device which connects you to other computers on the Internet – this can be your laptop, tablet, phone etc…
